2022 Summer Camp!

Summer Camp registration is here and quickly filling up!
Our nature-based summer camp returns with new energy, enhanced curriculum and a few familiar faces. Early Childhood camp leads announcement coming soon!

Summer Camp favorite and Minnesota Waldorf Grades Assistant Taylor Crosby returns to lead the Grades Camp. She brings fresh and new energy along with her background in the Arts. Taylor Crosby is passionate about helping others to authentically express themselves through the arts. She graduated from Columbia College with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She taught special education for two years before she joined the faculty at the Minnesota Waldorf School. She was the lead teacher at the Grades Summer Camp 2021. After running the grades camp at MWS in 2021, Taylor fell in love with the philosophy and arts centered of the Waldorf school and has continued teaching as a lower grades Assistant 2022. Taylor is most excited to play in the sun, bike, hula hoop, and create tons of unique art projects with all the MWS campers this summer! Her favorite ice-cream truck order is anything dairy free and almost always a Jonny Pop!

GRADES SUMMER CAMP WEEKLY THEMES
Grades camp is designed for students entering 2nd grade through 6th grade in the fall of 2022

Theme weeks (below) are for older children only. Each theme week is structured on a five-day week to provide ample time for children to relax, make friends, and immerse themselves in the themed activities. For more information on our Early Childhood Camp visit our Summer Camp registration page.

Week 1: Magical Creatures (June 20-June 24)
Start the summer off right! We’ll spend our week immersed in the magical world of mythical creatures. We’ll make magical creatures from beeswax, forest homes for our creatures, and egg carton mushrooms. Ring ribbon streamers with bells, tasseled bell ankle bracelets, nature crowns, bubble wands, nature filled magical jars with crystals will fill out our magical week. All together we’ll build a rock spiral, and bake rainbow cupcakes.

Week 2: Weaving (June 27-July 1)
Spend a week with all things string! Gods eyes, hot pads, friendship bracelets, and silly woven stick people will all be a part of our growing understanding of weaving. Our camp community will create a large, camp wide, tapestry, and y-stick weaving.

Week 3: Fairies and Gnomes (July 11-July 15)
One of our favorite weeks! We’ll build wonderful fairy houses to hang on porches or in trees
along with the furniture and fairies to go with them. We’ll turn ourselves into fairies with cardboard wings, and wands. Together we’ll host a tea party and sweet treat picnic under the trees.

Week 4: Paper Crafts (July 18–July 22)
Experience real paper making with recycled paper and pressed plants! We’ll make tissue paper flowers and flower crowns, paper beads, lanterns, coffee filter butterflies, and sculptures with paper pulp or paper mache. Together we’ll share our paper masterpieces art show style, and make popsicles out of real fruit.

Week 5: Bread & Butter (Jule 25-29)
Let’s bake! We’ll make bread, jam, and butter and all sorts of table top accessories. Wax candle dipping, wooden cutting boards, and naturally dyed cloth napkins will supplement our bread filled tables. We’ll celebrate our bready week with a tea party picnic under the trees.

Week 6: Recycled Crafts (August 1-5)
This week we’ll turn trash into treasure by making egg carton creatures, cardboard box towns, yogurt cup flower vases, and toilet paper roll flowers. We’ll work in community to create one giant collective art piece out of recycled materials!

Week 7: Natural Dyes & Tie-Dye (August 8-12)
Experience the wonder of natural dyes! This week we’ll make and dye playdough, color bandanas with natural dye, and tie dye t shirts. We’ll learn which makes the best eco paint: plants, berries, coffee grounds, or dirt. Flower printing and making beeswax wraps wil round out our dye week!

Week 8: All Things Art (August 15-19)
A week filled with child led creation! Yarn painting, watercolor, experimental painting using balloons and bubble wrap, and making natural paint brushes, will guide us in our art exploration. We’ll make collages, do some printmaking, and make mobiles out of natural materials!
