Sophia holds a BA in Asian languages and literature from the University of Minnesota and an MFA in creative writing for children and young adults from Hamline University. She is IMSE-trained in Orton-Gillingham, a multi-sensory, phonics-based method of literacy education. Her teaching experience includes three years of English as a Foreign Language in Japanese public schools, a Japanese language block at MWS, work as an early childhood classroom assistant at MWS, private guitar lessons, and private literacy tutoring. She has been a reading specialist at MWS since 2018.
Sophia has been interested in Waldorf education since childhood. She first became involved with MWS in 2014 when her oldest child joined the early childhood program. During her three years on Parent Council, she became better acquainted with the school’s robust grades program and more deeply connected through volunteer activities.
In her leisure time, Sophia enjoys reading aloud to her children, making music, listening to music, writing stories, discussing stories, painting, and sitting in the sun.
