Joyce Olson-Kapell

Joyce completed her BA at the University of Minnesota with a major in women’s studies and art history. She worked as an advocate for the Domestic Abuse Project until her son Elias was born in 1995. Elias attended the City of Lakes Waldorf
School. Inspired by the curriculum, Joyce became an active parent volunteer, substitute teacher, and assistant handwork teacher and received her Waldorf teaching certificate from Sunbridge College in 2006.

She went on to open a Waldorf-inspired toy store where she developed a program of craft classes for children and adults and a summer camp program focused on woodwork and handwork skills for children. Joyce went on to teach her classes
independently and currently has a line of craft kits sold by many natural toy stores and online retailers nationwide.

In her free time, Joyce loves to run, bike, swim, garden, draw, read, do triathlons, and walk her somewhat decrepit Boston terrier, Petey. Fun Fact: Joyce was born in Vienna, Austria where her father was developing his career in opera.
