Anna Dains has directed the choral music program at MWS since 1990. She had planned to teach upon graduating with a degree in music education from Hamline University, but she did not feel like she belonged in a public school setting. She had learned of Waldorf education while at college and tucked the idea in the back of her mind for several years. Later, when looking for a place for her first child, she discovered a Waldorf home preschool in her neighborhood. The preschool teacher suggested that Anna apply for the choir teacher position at MWS.
Over the years at MWS, Anna has seen many students enriched by the value the curricula places on music. To increase her effectiveness as an educator, she has trained with Waldorf teachers Ursala Koepf, Peter-Michael Riehm, and Fabian Lochner. She has also done post-graduate work at St. Thomas and St. John’s University. Her most profound instruction, however, has come from her own students.
Anna is married with two adult children who are graduates of MWS. She enjoys hiking, gardening, backyard birding, crossword puzzles, gluten-free baking, and her two adorable guinea pigs. She is known to frequently hum aloud while reading music scores, driving her family to distraction.
