Our New Kindergarten Cottage
The Kindergarteners began class in their sunny new cottage on Monday, Sept. 14, only three months after construction began in mid-June 2009.
The building includes many 'green' features, including geothermal heating and cooling, Marmoleum linoleum flooring, heat recovery ventilation, urea formaldehyde-free cabinets, double-paned insulated windows, and rainwater catchment areas. Roughly 1,000 native perennials and various shrubs are planned for a lovely landscaped garden on the cottage grounds. Native plants require less maintenance, water and fertilizer. VOC-free (volatile organic compounds) paints, stains and finishes were used throughout the cottage so everything smells fresh and natural, not toxic.
